Anybody know a good digital drawing tablet?

I don’t know if I’ve been cursed or what, but it seems any kind of drawing tablet I come into contact with just breaks down within a few months.
I think I take pretty good care of my stuff, I bring the tablet around in a carrying case inside my laptop bag and wrap the wires neatly-I even kept the twisty ties, and just keep the pen in one of those pen sleeves in the laptop bag. I replace the nibs when they get worn out.
But despite this, the tablet will either become slow or “laggy” or just become completely unresponsive.
It’s not my computer because I had one of my friends try their tablet with my laptop and another tablet I borrowed from the library and all it worked fine. So the problem is with the tablets.

My first drawing tablet was a simple one by wacom CTL-472 and that became unresponsive within a few months.
Instead of replacing it with another one by wacom CTL-472 I decided to get an Intuos Pro, recommended by my friend.
That too became very slow and unresponsive at times.

My friend says Wacom tablet is the way to go, but I’m not really that sure any more.
So do any of you guys know a good tablet I could get for a reasonable price?
Preferably one that won’t break down within 6 months?
